Many of us use dark rides as a personal challenge to improve our skill level. To push ourselves and our equipment to the max. Pirates gives us lots of challenges. Harsh colored lighting, dark scenes, a moving boat, etc… To overcome this difficulties, we need to compensate for each in a different way. Using higher ISO’s, fast lenses, […]

I was surprised with how much grander this scene is at the Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World compared to Disneyland. I was told by those that frequent WDW that it is better, I agree. 1/100 second exposure at f/1.8 at 28mm. Lens used was Nikon 28mm and camera was Nikon D4s. Follow me on […]

A classic scene I (and I’m sure most, if not all of us) try to take while riding The Pirates of the Caribbean. I had the shot you see above in mind for a while so each time we rode it I had to sit on the right side of the boat to get it. […]

The first “low light” lens I ever bought was the Canon “nifty” 50 f/1.8. And to give it a proper test, we rode one of our family favs, POTC. Armed with the 50, and shooting wide open at f1.8, I tried my best to grab all the shots that had eluded me in the past. […]

Apparently, Disney Imagineers decided that the mermaids in Peter Pan’s Flight and Ariel’s Undersea Adventure weren’t enough, so they were added to the Pirates of the Caribbean ride, This existing skeleton had some extra bones added, and voila, instant mermaid. This does work better than the underwater projections, which have not been particularly effective in […]

I took a similar shot on a trip we took a year before, but didn’t get the focus right. Pirates of the Caribbean is the first ride we head to once we enter Disneyland. It’s my son’s favorite ride (well, one of them) and he will always want to ride it 3-4 times (in a […]

Avast ye mates! Here on the Pirates of the Caribbean ride you’ll find lots and lots of skeleton pirates, most of whom seem to have died protecting their riches. Or maybe, just maybe, they’re not dead… Like Captain Barbosa, perhaps they have fallen under a dark curse, and await its end while protecting the only thing […]

As you glide down the Pirates of the Carribean ride in New Orleans Square, you’ll hear the chants of “We wants the redhead! We wants the redhead!” The scumbag pirates are waiting in line to bid on captured women, and this particular redhead happens to be catching their fancy.
