Halloween pumpkins preside over the Magic Kingdom Train Station ~ Joanie Eddis-Koch
One of my favorite lenses is my 16mm ultra wide angle lens. It proved to be perfect for capturing this Jack O’ Lantern in all its glory as it was displayed during Mickey’s not So Scary Halloween parade. My nemesis, the fog machine, was in full force on this night. I had to time my efforts in between the belching of its deadly, subject obscuring fog. I had my tripod set up low to the ground to get the best angle for this composition. It took forever to get the proper combination of a mostly fog free train station and the absence of people in the shot. In the end I was happy with the result.
This was captured using a Nikon D4. The lens was a Nikon 16mm ultra wide angle lens with a 180 degree field of view. The distortion that this lens introduces into a shot was perfect for framing this Jack O’ Lantern. The shutter was set to 2 seconds and the f stop was f 8. ISO was set to 100 and the exposure bias was set to -1.3. Metering was set to matrix. This single shot was buffed and polished in Photoshop using Camera Raw software.
