Backyard fountain

To go along with my earlier post showing the fountain in front of Spaceship Earth… here’s a shot of the fountain behind it… almost four years after the earlier shot! It’s worth taking a moment to watch the fountain if you happen to catch it during one of its shows; it can make some pretty […]

Pluto's pumpkin

In the hub at the Magic Kingdom, Pluto is proudly showing off his Jack O’Lantern. I’m sure that it was a hard decision for a dog when choosing a pumpkin design – bone or fire hydrant?   It was raining when this photo was taken, if you wonder why there’s little dots in the air! […]

Main Street scarecrow

Nothing like a Main Street Philharmonic scarecrow to keep away the… what, exactly? Well, I didn’t see any crows, so they must be working! This is part of the Halloween seasonal display near the train station, where there are scarecrows of various Main Street denizens.

Weenie and water

Each of the Disney parks’ has a central icon, which Disney refers to as a “weenie” – something to draw the eye and serve as the focal point of the park. Epcot’s is, of course, Spaceship Earth – an iconic structure if ever there was one. In this shot, I placed the calm and relaxing […]

The Midnight Zone

What’s after the Twilight Zone? Maybe the Midnight Zone? This photo was taken just after midnight (12:04am, to be exact), and the park was just closing and the ride entrance had been shut down. No more hotel guests, please…

Zoom buggies

One late night in the Haunted Mansion, I managed to find a quiet enough moment to set a tripod in the back corner of the queue and take a nice, long 30-second exposure, giving a nice ghostly zoom effect to the Doom Buggies moving by. If I were to try this shot again, I would […]

Giant snakes

Animal Kingdom has a ton of hidden details that easily go overlooked. One of my favorites is the predator-prey details at Flame Tree Barbeque, where you’ll see predator-prey motifs throughout the restaurant. In this area, there’s a giant two-headed snake curling its way around the exterior while mice decorate the supports just above it. The […]

Panning, but not for gold

It’s a little tricky to do a panning shot of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, since you’re a little far away from the trains, but it can be done! This was 1/25th of a second at 105mm, ISO 80.

Ariel, is that you?

Apparently, Disney Imagineers decided that the mermaids in Peter Pan’s Flight and Ariel’s Undersea Adventure weren’t enough, so they were added to the Pirates of the Caribbean ride, This existing skeleton had some extra bones added, and voila, instant mermaid. This does work better than the underwater projections, which have not been particularly effective in […]
